Forever 21

September 29, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

One of my favorite places to shop is Forever 21. I just love this store because there are so many items to choose from. I mean one rack will have about six different items on them. The carry all types of clothing, such as work, weekend, beach, a night on the town along with the latest trends. They have shoes and some many accessories, such as handbags, scarves, bracelets, rings, necklaces, headbands, lip gloss, etc. You see people of all ages and nationalities in this store. It is so universal to me. I go to the mall almost every weekend and if not at least three times in a month and I have to stop in this store, my boyfriend waits outside the store in the lounge area because he said I take too long because it’s so much to look through. On my last few visits I purchased a gray Jimmy Hendrix t-shirt, that has that vintage look to it with black bracelets and a black ring, a shirt for work that is black and off white with ruffles, white shorts, white racer back shirt, a pair of gray linen pants and a change purse. Their items are reasonable priced so, they rarely have a sale, but they normally have one or two racks that have sale items all the time.

Do you need to call the fashion police?

Ever wonder why you are being stared at? Most likely you felt nervous about the clothing you chose to wear. After reading the following tips, feeling nervous about what you wear should decrease.

1. Never reveal too much skin. Wearing something you would wear to a club is not professional. If a shirt is too small, wearing a slip underneath can hide the tummy from showing.

2. If you have to lay down to squeeze into your pants, those are pants you should not wear to work. Answer. Go one size larger and feel more comfortable and look more business.

3. Lingerie should not be able to be seen. Victoria’s Secrets are secrets for a reason so to ensure our undergarments are not showing, wear nude colors with white clothing. Sometimes the bikini or seamless underwear gives a more flattering effect with that skirt.

4. Whether we try or not, shirts sometimes want to show skin between the buttons. To cure this mishap, transparent tape placed between the buttons from the inside can solve the dilemma.

5. Women look nice in form fitting dresses and shirts but this attire is not nice in the office. Wear loose type clothing that does not look like you painted it on.

6. Don’t wear those pants that have the inner seams hanging to your knees. Ditch that oversized sweater too. Dull colors do not invite cheer. Make sure pants fit firm around the waist and thigh area, lose extra big clothing and try a bright color with your outfit to make a sunny feeling environment.

7. Stay away from young looking wear. If you wore it in high school, you should not wear it at work. Lose short skirts, character type shirts and high hair to keep your look business attire.

8. If you wear anything that you know your grandparents would wear, that is a sign the clothes should not be worn in the workplace.

Brown and Black Shoes: Know the Difference!

September 4, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

One thing I am constantly trying to explain to my boyfriend is the fashion faux pas of wearing brown shoes with black pants, or anything brown with anything black. Yes, they’re both dark colors. No, that does not mean they go well together.

While the two colors are both dark and go well with several colors (usually those that are much lighter to provide some nice contrast), they do not go well together. Why? I don’t know, but try it for yourself and I’m sure you’ll agree with me. I have this beautiful black and red dress that I bought from Forever 21 two years ago, and I find that the only pair of shoes I have that goes with it are my knee high black boots. I have knee high brown boots, too, but they look awful when paired with this dress.

Ask any fashion professional and they’ll tell you the same. Avoid the dreaded brown-shoe-black-pants phenomenon. Black shoes with black pants, brown shoes with tan pants, perhaps.

Fall For Fashion

Ladies! Are you still trying to mix your summer and winter clothes in an attempt to create the perfect fall fashion? Stop right there! Before you go any further, I’d like for you to take a step back and see what you have to work with. Ready? Ok! You’ve got high heels, short skirts and flowing strappy dresses left over from the summer. Those sexy high heels matched your summer dresses perfectly, now you can pair them with a cute sweater and jeans! Instead of putting that long and flowing summer dress into the back of your closet, wear a cute button up sweater over it. Loved wearing that short jean skirt to the beach? Mix it up with your sexy knee high boots and a soft v-neck sweater. You get the idea! Now get on out there and strut your new style!

Comfort is Key

Ladies, listen. Don’t be bogged down by old fashion restrictions that have been passed down from generation to generation- no white after Labor Day, brown and black don’t match, your shoes must match your belt and your purse. Be free! Dress in a way that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and most importantly, like yourself! No one can tell you the right way to dress. The “right” way to dress is a way in which you feel most comfortable with yourself and where you are in your life. Your style should able to change and adapt as you do throughout your life. Be willing to take chances, make mistakes, and experiment. No one looks perfect one hundred percent of the time. But how will you find what looks perfect on you if you aren’t willing to take a chance. Love yourself, and live your life accordingly. No one can tell you don’t look good except yourself. KNOW that you look good!

Make-up: Less Is More

September 4, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

In today’s world of more is better, women are using more make-up. I don’t like that women feel they need to “put on their face” to go into public. Women need to be proud of who they really are instead of hiding behind make-up.

I realize there are reasons to wear make-up. If you’re paranoid of scars, work in the public eye, work in theater, etc., wearing make-up is used for the right reasons. But if you’re using make-up because you feel its expected, then you need to stand up and be yourself. A little lip gloss or eye liner isn’t the issue. What I see are women using spackling-thick foundation with super heavy eye shadow and lipstick so glossy it looks drippy. This isn’t attractive.

Its time we got back to nature–a little powder, some light lip gloss, and nice neutral eyes. Show yourself off instead of creating a new you.

Tips for Looking Great

In today’s society everyone wants to look their best. For women, the choices can seem endless and overwhelming. Should I mix patterns with stripes, heels, flats? The questions go on and on. If you decide to where a printed pattern you should always match the size of your print to your body size. If you are a very petite woman then you can pull off a very small pattern. If you are petite and you wear large patterns, you can get lost in them. The same is true for the larger woman. If you wear a small pattern, it becomes confusing and overwhelming because there is so much of it. Remember to keep your patterns in line with your body size.

Tips for Short Girls!

A great fashion tip for women who are short and curvy like myself is to wear shirts that go down to your waist and pants that flare out at the bottom to take away from your hips. Always be sure to hem your pants, too. Clothes that are too long make you look like you’re swimming in material! Getting your clothes tailored can add up, but they make all the difference in your appearance. Also be sure to avoid horizontal stripes as they make you look fat. Opt for vertical as they will give people the illusion that you’re much taller than you actually are. Chunky shoes, heels are always a help, too!

Less Is More When It Comes to Style

With makeup, think “enhance,” not camouflage. Be natural, look fresh and clean and you will look younger no matter what your age. Apply all your makeup with a light touch choosing natural colors that complement your skin tone, hair and eye color.

Few women can flaunt dozens of chains, rings and bracelets without looking gaudy. It’s nice to have jewelry, but you don’t have to wear it all at the same time. A few nice pieces keep your look delicate and feminine.

Keep your clothing simple. Classic lines and colors that compliment your coloring are always in fashion. Avoid gaudy prints and flashy colors that will be out of style before you find something to wear with them. Let your play clothes show off your zany side.
