American Eagle Summer Clothing

August 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

My favorite summer time shop would probably American Eagle. I know it is pretty preppy but they have great that lift, slim, and highlight your best assets. I recently purchased a pair of their “Favorite Boyfriends” jeans (the distressed torn up pair). They ran about forty nine dollars. I wouldn’t mind picking up the rest of the line because their jeans don’t do the annoying thing where they get lose after wearing them for an hour. Also their tank tops with lace trim are so appealing I picked them up in every color! They were seventeen fifty but not I believe they are on sale for a mere ten dollars. All of the fabrics here are light and summer heat friendly.

Guess Polka-Dot Tube Top Bikini

My favorite swimsuit for this summer is a black and white polka-dot tube top bikini. The brand is Guess and it originally sold for upwards of seventy dollars in big retail stores. I got this suit for a bargain price at Burlington Coat Factory. I bought this suit because it was a tube top swimsuit. I didn’t want the tan lines of the straps on my shoulders and neck as I am going to be in a wedding this summer. I have received many compliments on the suit mainly because of the unique big polka dots and cute bow in the front!

Samoan Print Summer Shirt

Among the many articles of clothing my email penpal from New Zealand has sent me is my favorite summer shirt. It is light tan, collarless, with short sleeves and a short row of black buttons at the neckline. It is from Samoa and the fabric is printed with black markings from that culture. I wear it with jeans or a skirt and it is a great conversation starter. Sometimes I wear it with a black stone necklace from the island nation of Vanuatu, also a gift. The shirt is a light cotton and very comfortable on a hot summer day.

Decree Bohemian Dress at JC Penney

My favorite summer dress is a cutie by Decree. I purchased the sun dress at JC Penney for twenty dollars, a fifty percent mark down. It is very bohemian in a baby doll shape; it came in a faint grey with white, lime, and turquoise diamonds trailing down the front. The bottom of the dress is trimmed with a soft white strip of lace and I love that attention to detail when it comes to the neckline which is white and woven. This delicate dress skims my curves and hides my flaws. The way it can be dressed up and down never ceases to amaze me.

Retro Seventies Gold Sunglasses

I wore the same glasses for years and they were starting to fall apart. My cousin who is an optician noticed my situation and quietly presented me with retro frames from the early seventies, gold colored, square shaped wire rims. Eventually I got new glasses and I had him make the frames he had given me into sunglasses, which I wear all the time. The reason I like them is because receivng them was such a nice, unexpected gesture. Also, they are so far out of style that they are now unique, and I love hearing, “Cool sunglasses!” when I am out and about.

My Favorite Swimsuit is My “Mommy” Suit

August 14, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

My favorite swimsuit is my “Mommy” bathing suit. The days of the bikini for me are probably over. There are too many skinny teenage girls on the beach that look like they are part of the 90210 set, and let’s just say I don’t blend in with them. The suit is still a two-piece and has a halter top, which is the most flattering style I could find for wide shoulders and not-so-thin arms. It is low cut in the front to add a little sexiness to it-a “Mommy” suit does not need to be frumpy. It has a really pretty tropical flower print against a black background, and I’ve had many compliments on it from other Moms. The bottom is wide enough to cover everything, but still high cut enough to be in fashion. It is perfect for someone that is active in the water like me as far as the top staying on and in place…even when boogie boarding. I love the suit because it makes me feel a bit younger than my 37 years. It was purchased at TJ Maxx a few years ago after trying on about a hundred others. It was like winning a little jackpot when I tried it on and was finally pleased with what I saw in the mirror. It is the only bathing suit that I have been wearing for the last 2 years since I like everything about it. How to keep my summer look from getting too stale? Lots and lots of cover-ups and sandals!

Summer Hair Styles for Middle-Aged Women

August 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

As a middle aged woman with long hair, I tend to wear my hair up a lot during the summer. Pony-tails or informal up-do’s are my most usual styles. The informal up-do’s can be created in a variety of ways, from piling hair upon the top of one’s head, and using a barrette to hold the hair up, letting the ends fall back down, but much higher and off of my neck, to gathering all of my hair high, twisting it back onto its self and utilizing a claw to hold it in place. I also tend to use fewer hair care products during the summer, opting instead to use the wash-and-go approach, and letting the summer sun give me natural highlights, while keeping my scalp cooler longer from the wet hair.

American Eagle Flip Flops from Payless

My favorite type of summer clothing would have to be my flip flops. Any other time of the year your feet get stuck in shoes, boots, or heels. However when summer rolls around flip flops become mandatory everyday wear. My favorites are ‘American Eagle’ brand from Payless. The come in such fun bright colors and very stylish designs, all the while managing to be fairly inexpensive. Styles can actually range from simple beach attire or to nicer yet still relaxed evening foot wear. There is just something about a great pair of flip flops, they instantly send a more relaxed and laid back message, which is what summer should be.

My Big Hollywood Sunglasses

My favorite sunglasses are my big Hollywood glasses; they’re white frames with dark lenses that have a purple tint. I bought them for about $5 at H&M two years ago. I love walking around NYC in the summer with them. Sometimes I put my Yankees hat on and pretend to be a celebrity and “hide” from the public eye in Starbucks or wherever I am. My boyfriend says they look like big alien eyes or Bono glasses but I can’t stop wearing them. They’re great for when I want to hide from the world and just be glamorous or just a day at the beach.

Shopping for Summer at Loose Lucy’s

My favorite place to shop for clothing in the summer is Loose Lucy’s. This store is targeted to the “hippie” crowd mainly, but other people enjoy shopping there as well. I like to buy the dresses that they have. They are comfortable and really unique. I donít see many other people wearing the same outfit as me. Most of the brands that are offered are not popular or well-known brands. They also sell footwear, which is very comfortable. The prices are great, usually ranging anywhere from $10-$45 a dress. There are often specials in the store which allows me to buy two items for the price of one. I am excited to purchase more clothes there as it gets closer to the summer months.
