I Love Flip Flops

June 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

My favorite summer shoe is flip-flops. I was encouraged to wear them by my mother when I was little. I grew to love them. They slide on easy and give your toes the freedom they deserve. I love the feeling of air over my feet. Once I’m done out side they slip off just as easy. They are usually low price and will last the whole summer! If you go on vacation they are easy to pack also. They hardly take up any room at all. They are water proof for the beach and just simple no matter how you look at it.

Keep Cool With Cotton In The Summer

Dressing in the summer time is all about keeping it cool for us. Natives of a hot, hot region of California, we see 100+ degree temperatures every day from June through August. The first rule is to keep it natural. Nothing stifles like polyester when you are sweating it big. Keep to cool cotton, or, if you like to iron, go for linen. A favorite of mine is seersucker. It is ultra lightweight, really doesn’t wrinkle, and fold up small for travel. When it comes to shoes- have that pair of, breathable hiking boots ready for an off road trek, but in the main stick with open sandals and flip-flops. What about your hair? Sweet and simple- keep it short, or keep it up.

Showing Off My Pedicure

It’s really hard for me to decide what shoes to wear in the summer, and I think I’m not alone. I want to be comfortable, to show off my pedicure, and to dress appropriately. So often, I find myself reverting to flip-flops. Don’t get me wrong, flip-flops work for a lot of things, and there’s clearly a reason they are so popular. Increasingly, though, I find myself moving away from wearing them. They’re usually too casual (certainly for work), they make my feet more tired than other shoes, and what good is a pedicure if your feet are grimy by the end of the day? Last summer, I found a pair of shoes that absolutely fits all of my requirements. They are gold gladiator sandals with bronze studs. I got mine on a trip to China, but I’ve seen tons like them in stores in my city. They’re comfortable, can work with ratty shorts or a nice dress, and really draw attention to my feet. They take a bit longer to put on with all of the buckles, but it’s totally worth it when I’m still feeling relaxed and confident at the end of the day.
