My Favorite Swimsuit is My “Mommy” Suit

August 14, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

My favorite swimsuit is my “Mommy” bathing suit. The days of the bikini for me are probably over. There are too many skinny teenage girls on the beach that look like they are part of the 90210 set, and let’s just say I don’t blend in with them. The suit is still a two-piece and has a halter top, which is the most flattering style I could find for wide shoulders and not-so-thin arms. It is low cut in the front to add a little sexiness to it-a “Mommy” suit does not need to be frumpy. It has a really pretty tropical flower print against a black background, and I’ve had many compliments on it from other Moms. The bottom is wide enough to cover everything, but still high cut enough to be in fashion. It is perfect for someone that is active in the water like me as far as the top staying on and in place…even when boogie boarding. I love the suit because it makes me feel a bit younger than my 37 years. It was purchased at TJ Maxx a few years ago after trying on about a hundred others. It was like winning a little jackpot when I tried it on and was finally pleased with what I saw in the mirror. It is the only bathing suit that I have been wearing for the last 2 years since I like everything about it. How to keep my summer look from getting too stale? Lots and lots of cover-ups and sandals!

Summer Hair Styles for Middle-Aged Women

August 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

As a middle aged woman with long hair, I tend to wear my hair up a lot during the summer. Pony-tails or informal up-do’s are my most usual styles. The informal up-do’s can be created in a variety of ways, from piling hair upon the top of one’s head, and using a barrette to hold the hair up, letting the ends fall back down, but much higher and off of my neck, to gathering all of my hair high, twisting it back onto its self and utilizing a claw to hold it in place. I also tend to use fewer hair care products during the summer, opting instead to use the wash-and-go approach, and letting the summer sun give me natural highlights, while keeping my scalp cooler longer from the wet hair.

American Eagle Flip Flops from Payless

My favorite type of summer clothing would have to be my flip flops. Any other time of the year your feet get stuck in shoes, boots, or heels. However when summer rolls around flip flops become mandatory everyday wear. My favorites are ‘American Eagle’ brand from Payless. The come in such fun bright colors and very stylish designs, all the while managing to be fairly inexpensive. Styles can actually range from simple beach attire or to nicer yet still relaxed evening foot wear. There is just something about a great pair of flip flops, they instantly send a more relaxed and laid back message, which is what summer should be.

My Big Hollywood Sunglasses

My favorite sunglasses are my big Hollywood glasses; they’re white frames with dark lenses that have a purple tint. I bought them for about $5 at H&M two years ago. I love walking around NYC in the summer with them. Sometimes I put my Yankees hat on and pretend to be a celebrity and “hide” from the public eye in Starbucks or wherever I am. My boyfriend says they look like big alien eyes or Bono glasses but I can’t stop wearing them. They’re great for when I want to hide from the world and just be glamorous or just a day at the beach.

Airwalk Shoes from Payless

My favorite summer shoes were purchased at a very reasonable price at Payless Shoes, and bought on an impulse. The brand name is Airwalk. They are canvas slip-ons with white vinyl soles. The fabric is black with white stars. Although they are starting to fray, I am still getting compliments on them. I’m a casual dresser who wears them to church, to town, and any occasion where smart casual dress is appropriate. Although I consider them summer shoes, they were purchased in the fall. I had in mind to wear them to a New Year’s Eve party with fireworks, but I got sick and stayed home that evening.

Scarves are in This Season

If you’re a bit of a fashionista who likes to keep up on current fashion trends, then a good tip to be in style for this summer is to wear colorful scarves. Either tied around your wrist, hair, or neck, bright scarves are very in this season, and is a cheap way to pull together summer outfits together so that they appear playful without being gaudy. Thiss is especially helpful if you’ve got drab looking last season clothes like I do. Tying a scarf around your hair is also a good alternative to hats if you’re not particularly fond of hat hair.

Harley Davidson Sunglasses

My favorite sunglasses are always from Harley Davidson. The perfect design and fit works best for my busy and playful lifestyle. I first started purchasing the Harley Davidson glasses when my husband and I bought our new bike, but now I wear the glasses for everyday driving, working in the yard, and watching my kid’s play baseball. For me these very versatile and durable glasses are always money well spent. I used to have 2 or 3 different glasses for the different things I would do, annoying, but now these seem to work for just about anything. The many lens colors and designs can let you change your look without having to sacrifice the quality of your glasses. All of the glasses also come with a glass cleaning cloth and case. I would recommend trying the Harley Davidson Sunglasses to anyone!

A healthy hair with perfect style gives you an additional beauty to anyone. It would be very difficult to maintain and tackle a long hair, especially during summer season. If you have a soft lengthy hair, by making a top knot would be suitable, but if it’s a long rough hair and slightly curled, it will be more difficult to manage during summer season. I would suggest you to have a mushroom cut during summer. Here are few tips on how to maintain a beautiful and healthy hair. As short hair style during summer will be more comfortable for women working outside the office, can avoid the perspiration smell, itching due to dryness and sweating.

But still maintaining and caring your short hair is also more important. Hence

• When taking bath or cleaning your hair, be gentle with it, never rub harshly with a towel. Wipe of the water gently from top to down.
• Do not use any heating devices such as a hair dryer to dry up your hair. Brush your hair to ensure that all knots have been removed before shampooing.
• Scalp massages are always very important for a healthy hair, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly.
• Add Cumin, turmeric and black pepper to your regular foods as they are some hair-friendly spices.
• Add a teaspoon of Olive oil into cooked vegetables and it will help your hair grow healthy.
• Drinking green tea causes the relaxation of blood vessels, it helps overall cardiovascular activity through increased circulation.

Use only home based conditioners to give a supplement to your hair to make it soft and healthy. Few tips to keep your hair moisturize and protect from chemicals.
• Beat the egg yolk until it’s fluffy. Add 1 tsp of baby oil and then beat again. Add the mixture to the water and massage into the scalp and apply throughout your hair after shampooing. Rinse well. You can also use a teaspoon of olive oil instead of baby oil.
• Mash an avocado well until it is entirely creamy. Apply it on damp hair and cover it with plastic cap for 30 minutes and then rinse well.
Now cherish your beautiful hair and be away from the chemical hair conditioners.

Flats are My First Choice for Summer Shoes

July 23, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

About three years ago, I used to wear high heels all the time. I used them to go to school, to go to work, to go out on weekends, everyday everywhere. Then, one day, I fell down the stairs and broke my ankle (ha!) and I was forced to wear a cast for about three weeks.

When the cast was finally removed I was still in a lot of pain so I wasn’t able to wear heels so I went and bought my first pair of flats. I’m a short girl so I wasn’t keen on wearing those types of shoes; in fact, I kind of hated them as much as I hated tennis shoes. Having to go to ankle therapy and not being able to walk at all forced me to go and buy the flats. The ones I bought were a really cute black pair with a little shiny elbow on top. I started using this shoes quite often and slowly realized that I loved the fact that I was able to walk for long periods of times without getting tired, falling down the stairs, hurting my feet and that I was now even able to run when I was late for class or work!.

Since then, flats have been my first choice for summer shoes. I have a lot of pairs now and especially like the ones that have those really small heels with your toes showing in front. They are quite comfortable, cute and there are models for all kinds of clothes. Ever since then I’ve said goodbye to the high heels and started wearing the ever trendy flats.

Short Shorts for Summer

July 22, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Shorts create instant horizontal lines across the thighs. Women who have good looking legs would like to show off their legs this summer. I love shorts because you look fashionable and professional while staying cool in the summer. My favourite pair of shorts for summer is the grey coloured b132 Cute Short Hot Pants.

This pair of shorts is sexy low rise short shorts which looks seasonal. It has two angled side pockets and is 4″ inseam and zip fly with two buttons implying that it’s a button closure. Every time I wear it, it brings out the clear shape of my hips, makes me feel comfortable, relaxed, simple and attractive. It’s cheap and has a long lasting fabric, easy to wash both hand wash and machine wash. It draws attention away from a complete look since they are form-fitting and can be matched with a simple stylish top and simple flip-flops.

My friends keep asking me where I buy my shorts, so that they can go and buy them too. They say that it looks short but attractive for summer. I shop online because that is where I get array of collections and sometimes I walk to the Latin Dance Store that is where I get shorts from. I bought it at a get away price of $24.99. I wear it mostly on summer seasons, when am going shopping and when I’m at home with my friends.
