Feminine Spring Fashions

Women should be on the lookout for feminine fashions this spring. Skirts and dresses in bright and pastel colors will be a welcome change from the drab, heavy clothes many of you had to wear during this long, severe winter. The length of the skirts and dresses will probably be longer than in previous years as many women seek to return to a more ladylike and modest appearance. In addition, accessories will play a major part in women’s wardrobes this spring. With many of us having to dig deep in our pocketbooks to afford fashion, accessories will be an easy and cheap way to update ensembles from previous springs and provide fresh looks for the new basics you add to your wardrobe this spring.

Second Hand Stores

My favorite place to shop is a thrift or second hand store. The reasons for shopping at a thrift store are numerous. You can get a good deal is one of the obvious ones. You can find some great vintage pieces. One time I found a Pablo Picasso hand bag for only .75 cents!! It was in perfect condition. You don’t have to worry about showing up to work or anywhere else and having the same shirt on as “that other girl”. Some of the best reasons to shop at thrift store is that the proceeds usually go to a really good cause like a church or a shelter. However, one reason that is often overlooked is the benefit to the environment. Less clothes produced with unsustainable fabrics and toxic dyes really has an impact on the environment. So if I ever want to look good inexpensively and at the same time contribute to the community and the environment…the thrift store is the perfect one-stop shop!

Floral Print Sundresses

Spring fashion is always fun to wear. There are so many different patterns and colors to wear to get away from the dark and boring colors of winter. Floral prints are the best to wear for spring especially because they are always the most popular spring pattern and they have so many different colors and flower possibilities. Floral prints are great because you can match almost any color accessory and use them to dress the outfit up or dress it down. Floral print sundresses are the perfect spring fashion. Beautiful, easy to wear, and extremely comfortable, sundresses are the go-to outfit for many women every spring. The light cotton of sundresses makes them a great transitional outfit, cool and cute in the warmer summer months.

Two-Layered Full Skirt

My most unique piece of clothing I own (and is not a costume piece) is probably a long skirt I made myself. It’s a two-layered full skirt that is mid-calf length in the front and rounds down to ankle length in the back. Both the top and bottom layers are made from the same paneled skirt pattern. The top layer is a predominantly green cotton fabric featuring a stylized Japanese geisha print. The under layer is deep green and made out of plain lining material with green and gold trim around its bottom edge that pokes out beneath the top layer. The skirt has a yoke-style high waist and zips up the side. The yoke is made from the same deep green lining material and is detailed with black trim and black ribbon that laces up the front. Because of the layering and the overall shape, the skirt flows beautifully when walking, especially up and down stairs. Nearly all of my friends and family agree that it is a beautiful skirt. My mom’s extended family, however, always finds my alternative and unusual taste in clothing strange and essentially put up with me being the sore thumb.
